Nicholas Whitworth

Dr Nicholas Whitworth is an Australian-trained orthopaedic surgeon specialising in lower limb surgery for sports-related and degenerative conditions. His primary surgical focus encompasses total and partial hip and knee replacements, osteotomy, ACL and multiligament reconstructions, meniscal repair, the surgical management of chondral injuries, and lower limb trauma surgery.

Dr Whitworth completed his orthopaedic surgical training in Queensland and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and a Member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA). Alongside his private practice, he holds a public appointment with Gold Coast Health as a specialist hip and knee surgeon and Deputy Director of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Raised on the Victorian coast, Dr Whitworth initially completed undergraduate studies in physiotherapy at The University of Melbourne, where his passion for lower limb care began. His early experience treating elite athletes with Olympic and Paralympic winter-sports teams in high-performance environments highlighted the importance of tailored, outcome-driven healthcare. This inspired him to earn his medical degree at the University of Queensland and pursue specialist orthopaedic training.

Throughout his training across Queensland, Dr Whitworth embraced cutting-edge technology, first incorporating surgical robotics in 2020 at The Prince Charles Hospital. After completing a lower limb fellowship at Gold Coast University Hospital and Gold Coast Private Hospital in 2022, he was selected for a prestigious knee fellowship at Epworth Hospital in Melbourne, training under international leaders including Professor Julian Feller. He returned to the Gold Coast with his young family in 2024 to establish his practice.

Dedicated to education and research, Dr Whitworth actively trains medical students, registrars, and fellows at Gold Coast University Hospital. He maintains a strong research footprint through publications in peer-reviewed medical journals and regular presentations at national orthopaedic meetings. Privately, he provides care through Coast Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine and Mater Private Hospital Gold Coast.

Dr Whitworth utilizes modern surgical modalities, including intra-operative robotics and custom implants, to achieve the best possible functional outcomes for his patients. Grounded in a collaborative and approachable philosophy, he works closely with a broader healthcare team to optimize every stage of patient care and recovery.
